Freezing Stages for Microtomes

NEW! BFS-MP Series NEW!

Frozen tissue sections from any microtome
Fast freezing preserves cell detail
Freeze to temperatures as low as -40°C
Temperature adjustable for optimum cutting
Quick thaw for easy cleanup
No CO2 needed-minimal cost to run

Physitemp’s new line of temperature controlled freezing stages incorporates several innovative features at a lower cost than our TC series controllers. These controllers are designed around a new generation of switching power supplies which are smaller and lighter than the older BFS supplies. The supplies are overated 100% to ensure cool operation and continuous service.
Technical features include:

  • 110 and 220V operation by switch selection.

  • Temperature control to within 0.5°C in the range of -40°C to ambient.

  • Thaw switch to quickly defrost frozen samples.

  • Safety features include overtemperature alarm with power shut down in the event of inadaquate flow of cooling water or overuse of the thaw feature.

  • Controller incorporates fan assisted internal cooling to maintain low internal temperatures.

  • Continuous display of both set and run temperatures.

  • Simple temperature control set-up.

  • Auxiliary switched AC output for accessories (see options).

  • P.I.D. microprocessor based temperature controller with autotuning feature and sensor breakage warning.

  • Combined carrying handle with adjustable base for convenient adjustment of display viewing angle.

Optional Accessories:

ECV-1
Electrically Operated
Solenoid Valve

Enables the user to activate the tap water supply with the controller power switch.

PTU-3 Pump and Tank Unit

A closed loop water system for installations where an external water source is not available.

BFS & BFS-TC Series

BFS & BFSTC Series

  • Frozen tissue sections from any microtome
  • Fast freezing preserves cell detail
  • Freeze to temperatures as low as -40 degrees C
  • Temperature adjusts for optimum cutting
  • Quick thaw for easy cleanup
  • No CO2 needed. Minimal cost to run
BFS and BFS-TC series freezing stages fit easily onto most microtomes. These thermoelectric devices have no moving parts and need only AC current and a trickle of water for operation. Freezing starts immediately and can bemaintained indefinitely.Stage temperature is adjustable so that optimum cutting temperatures can be set for different kinds of tissue.

Physitemp Freezing Stages are especially valuable for multiple sectioning of brains and other organs which are too large for cryostats.

Small stages (BFS-3, BFS-3TC, BFS-5, BFS-5TC) fit all microtomes. The larger stages (BFS-30 and BFS-30TC) are designed for sledge microtomes such as AO 860.

Stages can also be used to control the temperature of materials other than tissue and have been used in research on integrated circuits, photo diodes, liquid crystal, wax formation on fuel oils and even freezing concrete.

COMPLETE TISSUE SECTIONING SYSTEMS

FSM_TC FRM and FRM-TC freezing radial microtomes and FSM and FSM-TC freezing sledge microtomes are complete tissue sectioning systems and consist of a Physitemp freezing stage paired with a precision radial or sledge microtome from Japan. These microtomes are well constructed and feature smooth, simple operation. Tissue sections down to 5 microns (radial) and 0.5 microns (sledge) can be made easily, with thickness, angle of cut and angle of attack easily adjusted.
